Located on the Western Slope of the Rocky Mountains, Silt is the center of the bullseye for some of the best outdoor recreation in the country. Within an hour's drive, you can be rafting, skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and hunting in some of the most iconic locations the USA has to offer.

Downtown Silt is located approximately 25-minutes from one of the top limestone climbing destinations in the world, Rifle Mountain Park. Rifle Mountain Park sits at an elevation of 6,500 feet and provides climbers with hundreds of sport climbing routes on the 2-miles of 80’ canyon walls, on both sides of the road. Rifle Mountain Park makes it very convenient for climbers, with CR 217 going directly through the park and providing visitors with numerous areas to park. The vast amount of public lands that surround Silt make the region a mecca for those looking to get an adrenaline rush on ATV’s! Popular OHV trails within close proximity to Silt are in the Flat Tops just north of town, Hubbard Mesa Recreation Area in neighboring Rifle, and the Grand Mesa National Forest about an hour away.

There are two boat ramps on the Colorado River in Silt for those looking to put-in and take-out in town – the boat ramps are located at Silt Island Park and at the KOA. There are additional put-in and take-out locations along the Colorado River including Grizzly Creek, Two Rivers, South Canyon, Tibbits/Dinosaur, New Castle, Rifle, and Parachute. Visitors can use their own water crafts to explore the river or link up with a local guide company to help them explore local rapids.

Silt is surrounded by some of the best fly fishing waters in the entire country. The Colorado River flows directly through town and provides anglers with numerous locations to catch large rainbows and browns, including Silt Island Park, Silt River Preserve, in addition to other locations along the Colorado in town, New Castle, and Glenwood Springs.

For those looking for lake fishing, anglers can catch a variety of fish at Harvey Gap Reservoir just north of town including catfish, largemouth and smallmouth bass, perch, crappie, rainbow trout and northern pike. 20-minutes northwest of downtown Silt is Rifle Gap Reservoir, where anglers can catch rainbow and German brown trout, walleye, pike, smallmouth and largemouth bass and yellow perch. Both of these reservoirs are two of the most popular locations on the entire Western Slope to ice fish with their easy access and wide variety of fish to catch.
West Elk Trailhead is located about 35 minutes north of Silt and provides outdoor enthusiasts with miles of non-motorized trails for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. These trails are located on the edge of the Flat Tops which provide picturesque views of the mountains to the south. Additional cross country trails within an hour from Silt are the Spring Gultch Trail System in Carbondale and the Grand Mesa Trail System on the Grand Mesa, the largest flat top mountain in the world.
About 35 minutes from Silt is Sunlight Mountain Resort, a great family friendly resort just outside of Glenwood Springs that’s great for skiers and snowboarders of all ability levels. Additional ski resorts within a 60-90 minute drive from Silt are Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands, Powderhorn, Beaver Creek, and Vail.
Silt is located in the heart of the best elk and deer hunting in the country being located on the cusp of the Flat Tops Wilderness area and White River National Forest. These areas are home to the largest Elk and Mule Deer herds in the USA, which bring in hunters from all over the world throughout the fall months.
Silt is centrally located to some of the best mountain biking trails in western Colorado. Visitors can enjoy The Grand Hogback Trail System north of Rifle or trails in New Castle, the Roaring Fork Valley, Fruita, and Grand Junction within an hour’s drive.
